Committed to safeguarding

At The Y Hobart, the safety and well-being of your children and young people are our top priorities.

We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child and young person can thrive. As part of this commitment, we want to share important information with you about our safeguarding practices.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the process of protecting children and young people from abuse, neglect, and other forms of harm. It also involves creating an environment where children feel safe, respected, and supported.

Our Safeguarding Measures

Here are some key measures we have in place to ensure the safety of your children:

Screening and Training: All staff and volunteers undergo thorough background checks and receive training on all safeguarding areas through out the year, every year.

Code of Conduct/ Safeguarding Policy: We have a strict code of conduct and policy for all Y people to ensure appropriate behaviour and interactions with children and young people.

Supervision: Activities, programs and events are carefully supervised to maintain a safe environment for all participants.

Reporting Procedures: We have clear procedures for reporting any concerns or incidents related to the safety or well-being of children. These reports are taken seriously and addressed appropriately.

How You Can Help

As parents and guardians, your partnership is crucial in safeguarding children and young people. Here are some ways you can contribute:

Stay Informed: Familiarize yourself with our organization's child protection policies and procedures. You can request a copy from our office or visit our website.

Open Communication: Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding safeguarding. Your feedback is invaluable to us.

Empower Your Child: Teach your child about personal safety, boundaries, and how to seek help if they ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Reporting Concerns

If you have any concerns about the safety or well-being of a child or young person whilst in our activities, program or centre, please do not hesitate to contact our Safeguarding Lead at Safehobart@ymca.org.au . Your report will be handled with the utmost confidentiality and seriousness.

Thank you for entrusting us with the care of your children. Together, we can create a safe and supportive community for all.
